Exciting Things at Wire Park in Watkinsville

Exciting things are happening at Wire Park here in Watkinsville!

What is Wire Park?

If you haven’t yet heard about Wire Park, it is a mixed-use development unlike any other in Oconee County. Here is a quick overview of this wonderful development (from their website):

  • Walkable from downtown Watkinsville

  • Public park & event amphitheater space

  • Condominium flats, townhomes, & single family homes

  • Light manufacturing, warehousing, & office space

  • Retail and restaurants.

What’s Open

South Main Brewing had their official ribbon cutting last week with record attendance. Since I’m gluten intolerant I can only sample their seltzers, but I hear raves about the beers. I’m normally not a seltzer lover but they have dozens of flavor options. I enjoyed the blood orange on Thursday - it was the best seltzer I’ve ever had.

Lalo’s Taco’s & Cantina is now open! I was able to attend the friend and family event last week and was amazed by their diverse menu. I highly recommend the guacamole. The Grid, a food hall, should be opening this spring. Not only will there be local Mama’s Boy, but there’s a range of great food from gourmet hot dogs to Asian cuisine. I’ve also gotten a great smoothy at Soco Nutrition.

Besides great food and drink, Wire Park already has open Sugar Polish Nail bar, Birdawg Boutique (sale this weekend!), and several corporate offices. The Old Fashioned Barber just opened and it makes me wish I had a beard. The atmosphere is amazing. There’s also The Yard, THE baseball and softball training facility with 30,000 sq. feet. If baseball isn’t your thing, you can work out at Fitbody Boot Camp.

Wire Park is inclusive and community focused with events ranging from Christmas at Wire Park to sporting events on the big screens to a nice place for little ones to play while mama’s chat. Having our local public library in such a vibrant spot emphasizes Wire Park’s community spirit and engagement. The Oconee library Watkinsville branch has chosen it’s contractor and should be completed by the end of the year. I can’t wait to just walk down the street to check out books!
