Firefly Farm

Our latest renovation project is an old farmhouse that has been used as a hunting camp on 30 acres in Oglethorpe county. “Firefly Farm” is a five minute drive to where the firefly bike trail will be connecting Athens to Union Point that we hope to be Airbnbing by next spring.

We had been keeping our eyes out for enough land for my husband to hunt, open fields, a pond, and ideally an old farm house to restore up to two hours away. In January, this property hit the market only 35 minutes from our home and we jumped on it despite the crazy timing of also opening C Tucker & Co. As with every renovation project, I’m learning lots, and this suburban girl is navigating ponds full of invasive water hyacinth, wells that need to be “shocked” to be drinkable, not to mention a house full of taxidermy.

First up for the renovation is replacing the crumbling siding and getting the house painted. I’ll be posting updates along the way and probably asking for some design input. I’m most excited about bringing the vintage 1940’s kitchen back to life, tearing out the drywall ceilings to reveal the original 12 foot bead board and expanding to a second story to take advantage of all the roof space. My biggest challenge is figuring out how to repurpose the one bathroom and add a few more. We also have plans for a future glamping site and to one day turn the large pavilion into something special. In the meantime, check out a little preview of the farmhouse and land below.
