Easy Bathroom Updates
Don’t love your bathroom? Here are some easy and inexpensive cosmetic tweaks that can help.
Not everyone has the time, money, or inclination to renovate their bathroom. There are a few easy, simple things you can do to enjoy the aesethic of your bathroom without a renovation or many DIY skills. Here are a few ideas from easiest to more complicated:
Replace the “soft” things in the bathroom. This includes things like rugs, towels and a new shower curtain. If you have an old shower door, consider taking if off and putting up a pretty shower curtain. I am a huge fan of Homegoods for these things.
Art
Use art that you find at thrift stores, Hobby Lobby or even your children’s art to distract from outdated bathroom cabinets and/or tub. Latetia recently created the art wall below to divert attention away from the seashell sinks in her master bathroom. All the of artwork are items mostly found at thrift/antique stores.
Paint the Walls or use Some Wallpaper
This can make a huge difference and can be a good weekend project. Make sure you tape everything well if your brush cutting techniques aren’t perfect. Beautiful peel and stick wallpaper options are so common now and are less of a commitment than traditional wallpaper.
Light Fixtures
Changing light fixtures takes a bit of DIY skills or an electrician, but you can find nice light fixtures for less than a $100 on Amazon that can completely change the look of your bathroom.
Freshen the Cabinets
I have cherry cabinets that are not on trend but the wood really is pretty. Over time though, they have gotten dull and faded in spots. A tip I learned from a client - use a little oil to rub on the cabinets. They look brand new again! If you have painted cabinets or a wood grain you really don’t like, consider painting them.
Cabinet Hardware
For about $20 to $30 you can change out cabinet pulls that are dated to something more on trend that you like. I recently did this and it made all the difference in my bathroom.
